BlogFestivus 2012: a seasonal short story writing challenge.
Blogdramedy‘s writing challenge continues. Yesterday, I dashed off without giving you a list of the other participants. I’ve mended my ways, and you will now found links to the other writers on board this joyous reindeer train. My post today is a continuation of Day 1.
.:.
Trotting up the apartment steps, he could hear the music coming from the third floor. He wondered if his friend had the song on ‘repeat’.
The lyrics streamed down the hallway. But oh how it feels so real, lying here with no one near… Dasher pounded on the door trying to get his friend’s attention.
Only you and you can hear me when I say softly slowly… The door opened.
“HOLD ME CLOSER TINY DANCER; COUNT THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE HIGHWAY…” Dancer belted out his favorite tune, serenading Dasher in the process.
“Would you knock it off, Dancer?” Dasher yelled above the noise.
Dancer trotted to his stereo and turned down the music. “Sorry. I was just having a moment.”
“It creeps me out that you like that song so much.”
“Yeah well, what I like and what I do on my downtime is none of your business. Now, why did you need to meet with me face to face?”
Dasher handed him the note and watched as the blood seemed to drain from Dancer’s face.
“Holy shit! Why are you here? You should be headed for the bridge. There – “
“I was afraid what I might find. I-” Dasher’s voice cracked. He hung his head and repeated softly, “I was afraid of what I might find.”
“Better you than the authorities. Think about it. Shit. We have to tell the others. We’ll have a stampede on our hands if we aren’t careful.”

I missed Day 1 and had to go back and read it first!!! I am on the edge of my seat…what an amazing writing exercise. Gonna have to carve out time to go visit some of these others!! Thanks, Lenore!!! ANd thanks to you I have a song headache now….
Sorry for the headache, Beth Ann. Glad you are all caught up.
🙂 If that is all the stress I have in my life I am doing well!!! Happy BlogFestivus!
Amen!
“sorry, I was having a moment”. Haha!
Fess up, Darla – you’ve had similar moments. 😉
The tension…the drama. BlogFestivus…The Musical? 😉
I see it in the lights – Broadway!
A suspense building up for whats coming ahead….great story build up…
Suspense for the writer, too. Can she keep it up? Ack! Thank you for visiting, MRS.
Very nice. And I like the way you’ve been sprinkling in festive terms in the stories so far. Nice touch!
Thanks, Shout. I’m trying.
And so the plot thickens? Bring on tomorrow! 😀
The pressure! The pressure!
Oh, this is so good! Loved Dancer “having a moment.” Too funny. And I’m totally sucked into the mystery.
And Tiny Dancer is one of my favorite songs to do at karaoke.
I fear this is going to end miserably – not for the characters but for me. Oh well.
I would love to see you perform Tiny Dancer, Amy. That would be awesome!
I cannot help but think of Almost Famous when I hear the song these days.
Tiny Dancer – tee hee!
It seemed too easy a reference, but I like the song too much to not use it.
Great Suspense, and I thought I was the only one who liked that tiny dancer song
Thank you, Mr. Poppins. I suspect there are many Tiny Dancer fans, though some are just too afraid to come out and admit it.
Now I have “Hold me closer, Tony Danza.” in my head.
You’ve got a nice mystery shaping up here!
“Hold me closer, Tony Danza.” I haven’t heard that reference in a long time. Cracks me up.
I hope the mystery can continue. I’m nervous.
I’ve got this great mental image of Dancer just rocking-out!
🙂
He was. I saw it with my own eyes.
Oh the bridge, the bridge….what will happen! 🙂
I’m working on it – I’m working on it. 🙂
You are full of it…suspense, I mean. 🙂
Well, I’m probably full of the other stuff, too.*sigh* 🙂
Ah, the plot thickens!
Now, let’s make sure I keep the writing going, so it comes to a good ending, eh?
