Fleeting Moments :: A Drabble

Another day and another drabble, which is a short story of exactly 100 words.

I encourage you to flex your writing muscles and take part. Tag your post with ‘Friday Drabble’ and use the hash-tag #fridaydrabble on Twitter.

.: Fleeting Moments :.

She watched her oldest, a junior, drive away and head back to college.

Remembering words a friend wrote recently, she was left with an empty spot in the driveway and in her heart.*

How did it happen so fast? Pictures from his school years flashed through her mind. Basketball games, band performances and works of art filled a book of memories. She recalled the days of bickering brothers, remembering how the battles aggravated her. Now the house was quiet, the boys were young men and –

“Mom!”

“Mom!”

Shaking her head back to reality, she smiled. “Happy 7th birthday, Buga’boo.”

* The friend who created the sentiment behind the empty spot in the driveway and the heart was Patti’s January 12th River of Stone.

  1. Heya, found your blog and really enjoy the writings! Thanks for introducing me to so many different writing forms and hope to read more! Hello from Singapore 🙂

    1. Welcome Lynnette! I appreciate you taking time to visit and have a look around the place. My sister-in-law’s Dad lives in Singapore, interestingly enough – her name is Lynette.

That was my thought on the matter. Your comment?
