Adventure Girl’s Trail Tales: Update #8

Do you recall the news I shared about Adventure Girl in my post last week? For those new to the blog or experiencing a brain malfunction, last week I shared the news that Adventure Girl was the 84th thru-hiker to make it to Harpers Ferry, WV in 2011.  I also mentioned Adventure Girl passed the 1,000 mile mark, leaving just over 1,000 miles to complete.

Adventure Girl is so focused on putting one foot in front of the other that she is not doing her due diligence on updating her trail journal. She has not posted a journal update since May 4th. I was fortunate enough to get a direct response from her (via Facebook) on May 12th. During one of her stops, she updated her Facebook status to announce she reached Harper’s Ferry. After congratulating her, I asked if she would be updating her trail journal soon. Her response, “Aunt Lenore: I will try!” Continue reading “Adventure Girl’s Trail Tales: Update #8”

Adventure Girl Trail Tales: Update #7

When we last left Adventure Girl, she had checked in on May 5th, from Flattop Mountain, outside Harrisonburg, VA. Since Flattop Mountain, Adventure Girl has reached a milestone.

Apparently, Adventure Girl is much too busy to appease her Aunt and update her trail journal. Teenagers! Honestly. Let them go off into the great outdoors with no adult supervision, and they go all willy-nilly crazy. They don’t send cards or letters, and they rarely check in with SPOT Messenger. It’s as if they are off on a long hike, carrying the weight of life – or their backpack  – or something. As if! Continue reading “Adventure Girl Trail Tales: Update #7”

Adventure Girl Trail Tales: Update #6

When we last left Adventure Girl, she was somewhere around Daleville, VA. Following her this week has been harder, due to spotty coverage with her SPOT Satellite Messenger. Imagine – the Appalachian Trail winds through areas with less than desirable cell coverage. Who would have thought such a thing?

No worries, Readers. Adventure Girl continues along her way at a pretty good clip. According to her Mom, her right shin is giving her trouble every now and then, but her left shin is feeling fine.

Before I continue with the tales of Adventure Girl, I have a confession. Always donning my Editor’s hat, I have a tendency to edit Adventure Girl’s trail journal prior to sharing it with you. Having said that, I made an assumptive error in my last post. Adventure Girl mentioned she had a ‘nero’ day. Unfamiliar to many hiking terms, I didn’t realize ‘nero’ meant nearly zero. Instead, I was certain she made a typo, and I changed her ‘nero’ to ‘zero’.

And yes, I did mention an Editor’s hat. However, just as the cobbler’s children have no shoes, my posts are edited poorly. Now, let’s get on with Adventure Girl’s update! Continue reading “Adventure Girl Trail Tales: Update #6”
