And then I received the email …

So, I’ve been frazzled lately. The voices in my head are in overdrive. I’ve written at least three draft posts, though the thoughts are too raw to share. Wanting to slowly release the steam from the bubbling and boiling thoughts in my head, I drove to work this morning with an idea.

A smile came across my face when I thought about checking into a hotel room for the weekend. Quiet time by myself. Time to sit, write and relax with only the noise in my head distracting me. Then I thought about finding a hotel room with an indoor pool. The boys could join me on Saturday afternoon for an indoor pool day. As I thought about my weekend getaway, I could hear the laughter of the boys playing in the water, and I could feel the refreshing water being splashed in my direction. The Fire Station

My day began much like Alexander. At least, that’s how I felt. After a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad night, I felt I was facing a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. And to top it off, I had to take my son to his class field trip.

Joe’s class was taking a tour of the local fire station. Joe had first hand experience with this particular station, too. One morning, when Joe was around  3 yrs old, I was trying to wake him up for daycare. I could not wake him. I dialed 911, the firemen came to our house and drove Joe to the emergency room of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Joe was fine, and the doctors attributed his extreme lethargy to low blood sugar. What is your passion?

What is your passion? About what are you passionate?

I was asked those questions last week during a job interview. My answer? “I don’t know.”

After saying I didn’t know, I looked left, and I looked right. Then I asked out loud, “What am I passionate about?” (Please ignore my poor grammar, Mum.)

“Writing.” I said quickly – assuming responding to the question 8 minutes later is considered quickly. “I love to write. I’ve always loved to write.”

“Have you ever been published or paid for your written work?”

Oh sure. Try to put my writing in a box. My passion is pointless unless I’m paid or published, eh? I thought to myself.  “No. I haven’t published anything. I wrote for a local magazine for a couple of years, but it was not a paid gig.”

“Do you have any other passions?”

“Do I have any other passions?” Again, I look to the left, and I look to the right. And again I respond, “I don’t know.” Continue reading “What is your passion?”
