And on the third day…On the third day, I was absent. Yeah, I missed the third Dog Day of Summer, and I am now a day behind.
I’ll spare you the drama for why I am late, and I will just jump right into my belated third day of our 10 day writing challenge. Once again, I hope you will sit back and enjoy my contribution to Blogdramedy’s Blog Shorts, “The Dog Days of Summer”: 10 days, 10 stories, and 110 words. Though the sun may have set in your part of the world, we are still officially on the third day of the Dog Days of Summer. I may not be posting promptly, but I am meeting the deadline. I think that means I’ve earned a bone.

Pal (aka Lassie) by Dell Mulmey, Quinault, Washington
.: Identity Crisis :.
He burst through the door creating a ruckus. FLAP, FLAP, FLAP, FLAP, the doggie door flapped loudly.
“I am sick of this!” He barked.
His wife walked into the room, her ID tags tinkling lightly. “Another bad day on the set, Dear?”
“I just don’t understand why they cannot accept me for what I am. What’s wrong with me – the real me?”
He walked in circle four times and sat down.
“Oh Honey, don’t let them get to you. I know –“
He cut her off. “Ha! You know nothing, LADY. I mean, your name doesn’t help matters.”
Lady sat.
“I’m a male, dammit. My name is PAL – not Lassie.”
.::.
I did a bit of research for this post. No, not the part about Lassie. I learned about his real identity when I was a kid. I was trying to think of a common female dog name, so I Google’d it. Turns out there is a website for “Top Female Puppy Names“. Perhaps because it is the end of the day or perhaps because I am easily amused, but I think it is funny there is a website for puppy names.
And don’t forget…
