Oh, I’ll never do that!

Today, I am participating in Monday Listicles, a weekly creation started by Stasha at The Good Life. The idea for today’s list comes from Greta at Not Enough Patience: 10 Things You Said You’d Never Do But Have Caught Yourself Doing.

Growing up, the ‘I never’ game was associated with drinking: an ‘I never” statement was made and if you had done it – you were to drink. Being a prudish wallflower, I always walked away from that game completely sober. The only way I could get a sip of anything was when statements like “I never ran a red light” were uttered.

Caffeine, please carry me through the year.

If you are a drinker of alcoholic beverages, you may know the phenomena that occurs when one has had an excess of the adult beverage. Your confidence peaks and wondrous ideas fill your mind. You feel as though you are – to quote one Leonardo DiCaprio character – ‘King of the world!’

Yes, then you go to bed. When you wake in the morning, the wondrous ideas that filled your mind are replaced with a pounding head. The idea to start a company selling ice cubes doesn’t hold the same appeal as it did the previous night. The passionate and thought-out plan to ‘stick it to the man’ suddenly sounds like a death sentence, and you scrap the idea. Continue reading “Caffeine, please carry me through the year.”

Reflections while crossing the bridge

While looking around for the perfect picture to use for the first entry in my pictorial journal, I noticed the reflection of our Christmas tree in a framed photo on the wall. In addition, I noticed the light, from the light on the mantel and the sun through the window.

The glow from the light on the mantel shows off the Christmas tree Charlie made this year in school. The light coming in through the window shows light beyond the tree – beyond Christmas – into the new year.
