Music to my ears

I wanted boys. If I was going to try and give birth to babies, I wanted the babies to be boys.

I was born into a family of four girls and one boy. Estrogen was the dominant hormone, and I found myself craving testosterone.

Please understand, I have nothing against girls. Honest. I like girls. In fact, some of my best friends are girls.

What I failed to see with my Y-chromosome tunnel vision was the maleness that is attached to the boy. What do I mean by maleness? Well, I mean passing gas and laughing, scratching bellies and other parts, crumbs on the counter, crumbs on the couch, stinky socks, and the worst – toilets. Frickin’ frackin’ foreclosure

Last year, I wrote a post titled “Off to School”. The post was about our oldest son starting Kindergarten and our decision to enroll him in a Montessori school. I wrote the post early in my blogging career, back when I had all of two readers: a sister and a friend.

This post is about school, too. Actually, this post is about one school. My son’s school. The school my youngest was going to enter in August. The school we hoped to stick with through elementary school. Funny how things change. Not funny really. Sad. Quite sad.

I saw it, too!” (As if I was going to question the validity of what Joe observed.) “It was so cool.” My husband continued, “The caterpillar ate so fast and so much. He must have been famished.” Joe was still beaming, nodding his head in agreement.

Since yesterday, Joe has been trying to get his pet caterpillar to repeat the eating frenzy. For now, Pillar, as Joe named him, seems to prefer to eat in a more civilized manner. Continue reading “Joe and his friend, Pillar”
