100 Consecutive Days: Entering the Reading Room

Recently, while playing hookey from church, I watched my favorite Sunday television program, “CBS Sunday Morning”. Watching CBS Sunday Morning is a ritual I have enjoyed since I was a kid. Truth be told, I wish I could skip church every Sunday, if only to watch my favorite Sunday morning program. One reason I love the program so much is due to my memories of sitting with my Dad (who also looked for reasons to skip church) and watching the show together.

Before I get to Sunday Morning segment triggering this post, I have a confession. I am not an avid reader. Gosh, I should just go ahead and admit fully, I am not a reader. I know, I shake my head with my own disgust as I admit my shortcoming to you. After all, bloggers tend to be voracious readers. Many blogs pertain to the latest and greatest book. Bloggers throw out names of authors and the books written by the authors, as often as I throw out my love of ice cream and Dutch Monkey Doughnut’s flavor of the day. (Banana cake, by the way. Banana cake is the flavor Dutch Monkey Doughnuts is promoting today.) Continue reading “100 Consecutive Days: Entering the Reading Room”

Joe and his friend, Pillar

You can lead a caterpillar to a leaf, but you cannot make him eat it. However, if you are my kid, you will try, try and try again.

With smile that would light up the darkest hour of the darkest day, Joe beamed and said, “I watched my caterpillar eat almost an entire pepper leaf!” Seconds later, Daddy chimed in, “He did! I saw it, too!” (As if I was going to question the validity of what Joe observed.) “It was so cool.” My husband continued, “The caterpillar ate so fast and so much. He must have been famished.” Joe was still beaming, nodding his head in agreement.

Since yesterday, Joe has been trying to get his pet caterpillar to repeat the eating frenzy. For now, Pillar, as Joe named him, seems to prefer to eat in a more civilized manner. Continue reading “Joe and his friend, Pillar”

An Internet Connection

Nearly two years ago, I met some gals through friends. Though I did not have much in common with the gals, I was desperately seeking a connection. I needed to make new friends. I needed to find something outside of my life as a wife and mother. However, much like one can lead a horse to water but one cannot make the horse drink, one can fill a room with gals but one cannot force a friendship.

Though I did not generate any lasting friendships with the gals, I do give them credit for the fact that I started this blog. The gals were voracious readers and writers. I found their passion for the written word infectious. My love for writing has existed as long as I can remember, but I did little to fuel my passion. As I listened to the gals discuss their fanfiction sites and stories, I decided the time had come for me to do my own writing. Enter WordPress and Lenore Diane’s Thoughts Exactly.
