That thing called “perspective”

According to Merriam-Webster, the noun perspective means, “a : the interrelation in which a subject or its parts are mentally viewed <places the issues in proper perspective>; also : point of view b : the capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance”.

Earlier today, I found myself feeling a little frustrated with life. Fueled by hormones, I was borderline irritable and cranky, but I had to work. So, I sat on the couch and multi-tasked between two jobs and two different laptops. While I multi-tasked, I turned on my radio and tuned in to a local (though syndicated) talk show. I jockeyed between the two jobs, and I could feel myself becoming more anxious as I started focusing on my projects for the week. The more anxious I became, the less attentive I was to either job. Then I found myself distracted by the radio show, hearing the same audio clip played and replayed. The clip was recorded on May 22nd around 5:30 PM CDT in Joplin, Missouri, as a tornado tore through the city.

Adventure Girl’s Trail Tales: Update #8

Do you recall the news I shared about Adventure Girl in my post last week? For those new to the blog or experiencing a brain malfunction, last week I shared the news that Adventure Girl was the 84th thru-hiker to make it to Harpers Ferry, WV in 2011.  I also mentioned Adventure Girl passed the 1,000 mile mark, leaving just over 1,000 miles to complete.

I was fortunate enough to get a direct response from her (via Facebook) on May 12th. During one of her stops, she updated her Facebook status to announce she reached Harper’s Ferry. After congratulating her, I asked if she would be updating her trail journal soon. Her response, “Aunt Lenore: I will try!” Continue reading “Adventure Girl’s Trail Tales: Update #8”

An Internet Connection

Nearly two years ago, I met some gals through friends. Though I did not have much in common with the gals, I was desperately seeking a connection. I needed to make new friends. I needed to find something outside of my life as a wife and mother. However, much like one can lead a horse to water but one cannot make the horse drink, one can fill a room with gals but one cannot force a friendship.

Though I did not generate any lasting friendships with the gals, I do give them credit for the fact that I started this blog. The gals were voracious readers and writers. I found their passion for the written word infectious. My love for writing has existed as long as I can remember, but I did little to fuel my passion. As I listened to the gals discuss their fanfiction sites and stories, I decided the time had come for me to do my own writing. Enter WordPress and Lenore Diane’s Thoughts Exactly.
